about

In contrast again to Get Smart, this 1984 album was half original compositions and half cover versions of fantastic pop songs that had somehow escaped the public notice. September Gurls by Big Star was unknown at the time, (not to become 'discovered' until the 90's) and The Shoes (Boys Don't Lie) followed the Squire DIY ethos and were a very important American power pop band- yet unknown in U.K. The Clones (Tired Of Hiding), also unheard of outside their home Australia. The 'controversial' sleeve, inspired as much by Alex Chilton as the album title, perfectly mirrors the dark sounds and confused the music press who had already made their mind up about Squire some 5 years earlier.

Track Name: September Gurls
September gurls do so much
I was your butch and you were touched
I loved you well never mind
I've been crying all the time
December boys got it bad

September gurls I don't know why
How can I deny what's inside
Even though I keep away
Maybe we'll love all our days.
December boys got it bad

When I get to bed
Late at night
That's the time
She makes things right
Ooh when she makes love to me
Track Name: Debbie Jones
Debbie Jones
Debbie Jones
Doesn't want to live at home
Debbie Jones

Debbie Jones
On the phone
Making plans to run away
Debbie Jones

Mummy says to settle down and find yourself a friend
Daddy says to stay at school and take all your exams
Debbie tries to tell them but they'll never understand

Debbie Jones
Do you know
There's a million more like you
Debbie Jones

Debbie Jones
When you go
Then you'll really be alone
Debbie Jones

Mummy says to settle down and find yourself a friend
Daddy says to stay at school and take all your exams
Debbie tries to tell them but they'll never understand

Her brother is a Fireman
The other stayed in bed again
Her sister lives in Germany
And won't be coming back today

Debbie Jones
Debbie Jones

Her father is respectable
Her brother is an animal
And Debbie's run away from home
And won't be coming back at all

Track Name: Boys Don't Lie
I get cold
I get shivers up my spine
Baby lead me where it's warmer
Drive you in my car
Makes you feel so bolder

Boys can't show their love
When they keep it down
Boys don't lie to you
When you play around

I get hot
And the sweat runs down my back
Give me a chance to breath some
Another midnight sack
Another one to call

Boys can't hide the truth
When you're close at hand
Boys don't lie to you
When you look so tanned
Track Name: Tired Of Hiding
I can't stay anymore
I'm tired of leaving through the back door
out the window, I don't know about you but I'm tired of hiding

All these years non-stop
are quite enough for me I know and I don't know
why I ever wanted to start in the first place

I want to be with you so bad
that I'd do almost anything
but all these years of sneaking in the back
would be enough for anyone else

I'm tired of hiding our love
I'm tired of hiding our love from view
I'm tired of hiding our love
I'm tired of hiding our love from view

Do you know what I'm saying?
am I getting through to you
or are you so occupied with what you're doing
that you can't hear?

I've changed my mind about you
I don't need you anyway
I'll run away, and I won't need to shy away anymore

I want to be with you so bad
that I'd do almost anything
but all these years of sneaking in the back
would be enough for anyone else

Repeat chorus to end............
Track Name: Can You Tell Me When
Can you tell me when
My ship comes in
Can you tell me where
My ship has been

Understanding's hard
When love goes over the side
I'm standing on the Quayside
Watching the other ships sail by

Can you tell me where
My ship was bound
Can you tell me where
My ship was found

Understanding's hard
When love goes over the side
I'm standing on the Quayside
Watching the other ships arrive

Can you tell me when
Can you tell me when
Can you tell me when
When love goes over side
Is that time to rearrange your life
